Operation: Paywall

Operation Paywall (15/03/15)

By Mike Blow

Concerned that increasing portal activity on his estate might indicate a Shaper threat to the National Motor Museum, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu hurriedly contacted the Hampshire Resistance on the secure hotline. Needless to say, we were only too glad to help!  Using two other paywall sites — a children’s theme park and Marwell Zoo as the other anchors — our plan would put 10 blue layers over Southampton and the New Forest, safeguarding not only our citizens, but also a national park, some endangered wildlife, and our motoring heritage in the process.

All three sites were due to close at 1700hrs Sunday, so linking had to start at 1615hrs. Faced with numerous blue blocking links, a crack team of agents volunteered for clearance and did a terrific job. In a slight change to the script one of our eagle-eyed Action Men had to dash out an unplanned trip to redeploy one of the anchors after we’d mistakenly let it decay.  Doh!  And then, with all agents waiting in position five minutes before the links were due to go in, a L1 player popped up right under our link paths and threw a block in Hythe that nearly derailed our plan!  Quick reactions by our clearance team saw an agent race to the scene and take care of business.

Right on time, and with our Android Wear smart watches synchronised, seven portals were Jarvised simultaneously and the first links were thrown at 1615hrs. Despite some patchy signal at Beaulieu preventing the scanner from properly loading the linkable portals, by closing time we’d achieved our goal of 10 layers. A damned fine job by all involved. Total MU: just short of a million.

All fields made first CP. A determined adversary did eventually manage to knock out half of the layers, but several stood for four CPs. Blue sky at night, agents’ delight!
